Chickens Here, Chickens There, Chickens Laying Eggs Everywhere

Lemon Lane Farm is home to ten rescued Leghorn chickens. These quirky hens are full of personality and free to roam about the farm. With wanderlust in their spirit, the hens explore the property at their leisure and lay eggs in the most peculiar of places. It makes perfect sense that we find the eggs in the chicken coop, in the haystack or on a bed of straw. But on the days when we only find a handful of eggs, the easter egg hunt begins. Truth be told, we have been outsmarted by the hens on more than one occasion.

Discovery #1: Compost Can

12 eggs at the bottom of a trash barrel.

Discovery #2: Project Reminder

8 eggs at the bottom of a 3' x 4’ cardboard box filled with metal ventilation parts.

Discovery #3: Houdini Hens

13 eggs in a closed cabinet next to the barbecue grill.

Discovery #4: Privacy Please

6 eggs next to the outdoor commode.

Discovery #5: Home Decor

29 eggs yup 29 eggs on a shelf behind a basket.

Do you remember the excitement you felt as a kid finding the hidden easter eggs or perhaps finding the friend who was a master at hide and seek?

Well that excitement, happiness and laughter emerges even as an adult when you finally stumble upon the hidden stash. There is probably some scientific reason as to why the hens lay their eggs in various locations. But I find humor in thinking that it is quite possible these crafty hens hold secret meetings and collaborate ways to prank the humans. Challenge EGG-ccepted!
